Aerobic fitness

What is aerobic fitness?

Aerobic fitness is basically any type of exertion that raises your heart rate.  This also increases the amount of oxygen being delivered to your muscles, and enables them to work for a longer period of time.

Anyone who is, or has ever been in an unfit condition will know that quite a lot of normal activities such as walking up a flight of stairs, or even housework can leave you short of breath.  But if you were to increase your level of aerobic fitness, this won’t happen.  The more you workout, the more fit you will become, and soon you will find that everyday activities won’t be so hard for you anymore.  You won’t experience that shortness of breath and have to pull yourself up so often to have a break.

Life will become so much better the more you increase your fitness levels.  You will feel more rejuvenated, more confident, and even younger!  Yes that’s right, being aerobically fit can make you feel younger.  You will even find that your confidence levels will increase too.

How can I improve my aerobic fitness?

Really, there is only one way to increase your aerobic fitness levels and that is with aerobic exercise.  This is a very simple idea, and is not a hard thing to do.  Did you know that walking is an aerobic exercise?

In order to get the most out of walking you will need to increase your pace a bit so that your heart rate will increase.  There’s no need to over exert your self, just make yourself work a little harder, that’s all.  You should be able to still carry out a conversation whilst keeping the pace up.

There are many ways to make you aerobic workout more enjoyable too.  Some people do find exercise a drag, so why not get a group of friends together and go for a walk.  That way you can catch up on all the latest gossip and get a good workout at the same time!  There are even walking groups you can join too.  But if you prefer to go solo, why not grab your MP3 player, fill it with some really energetic music and head off down the street.  Listening to some face paced music can be a good way to keep up your pace.

If you’re the type that prefers to keep it all indoors, why not invest in a walking machine, treadmill, or elliptical machine?  That way you can catch up on all your favourite TV programs as well as get in your aerobic workout for the day.  You can even get bookstands that attach to some of these machines if you prefer to do a bit of reading while exercising.

How ever you want to do it, an aerobic workout will help to keep you fit and in good condition.
