Fitness with Pilate’s

by admin on January 2, 2008

Pilate’s workouts are often associated with aerobic workouts, but there is quite a large difference between the two.  20 years ago when aerobics was at it’s peak, we used to torture ourselves trying to get through an hourly session, often doing more damage to ourselves than good, and when this was realised we all stashed away our home workout tapes and stopped going to classes.

The beginning of the new millennium saw a rebirth of aerobics, but not as we knew it.  Pilate’s as we now call it is a lower impact workout that draws its techniques from Greco-Roman wrestling, yoga, rhythmic gymnastics and sometimes swimming, as some routines can also be conducted in swimming pools (water aerobics).

Because palates is such a gentle workout, it makes it possible for people of any age to try it out.  Pilate’s can help you Lossen up those stiff joints and bring back some of that flexibility you may have lost, help you to loose weight and keep your heart and muscles strong.  There is a wide range of routines too, so if you’ve ever found exercise boring, Pilate’s could be the answer for you.

Pilate’s classes are held everywhere, from health clubs, gyms, the YMCA or even your local community college.  Joining a class can also be a great social event as it gives you the chance to interact with like-minded people whom all wish to achieve a common goal.  But if you prefer to exercise alone most gyms offer personal trainers.  There are also a wide variety of DVD’s on the market too if you want to workout in the comfort of your own home.

There are many benefits to regular exercise like Pilate’s.  It not helps to strengthen and tone your body, but help to reduce the risk of heart disease, strokes and diabetes.  A regular workout can also help boost your immune system and lift your overall mood.
