Heartburn is hard to deal with no matter who it is. One of the worst situations is when a pregnant woman has heartburn because it tends to be so intense and hard to treat. Pregnant women are not always able to rely on
the same treatments as they could when they were not pregnant because they have the unborn fetus inside of them and don’t want to endanger the baby. Especially medication should never be taken when pregnant just to be safe.
There are a few things that are important to be aware of on the topic of heartburn during pregnancy not only for the women who are already pregnant but those who are planning to become pregnant in the near future. The main reason that heartburn during pregnancy is so bad is because the baby is getting so big and is pressing up against the stomach and other organs. This can cause the digestive process to slow which can cause heartburn to develop. Because more than half of all women deal with heartburn at some point during their pregnancy, it is important that they are aware of what symptoms to watch for.
There are a few symptoms that women should watch for if they are worried about getting heartburn during pregnancy. The symptoms can often be confused as being associated with another health condition. Another reason that heartburn can occur in pregnant women is because their hormone levels are fluctuating so dramatically. This is why women should be prepared to find a treatment that is going to be effective but safe.
Fortunately there are ways to deal with heartburn during pregnancy which all women are relieved to hear. Eating smaller, more frequent meals is one of the best things that women with heartburn during pregnancy can do. There are also certain medications which are very mild and which are considered as being safe to take during pregnancy such as Tums and Maalox.
